Can blu-ray 1.0 be upgraded to 1.1 with firmware update?

Erm - as the title suggests...

Got a blu-ray player with an ethernet port, but read somewhere that 1.1 players will need flash memory or further hardware requirements which of course can't be downloaded...

Does anyone know for sure?

Ah well, still got the trusty ps3, seems i'll be selling my blu ray player to my unsuspecting mother sooner than expected
