Hi all,

Just wondering if one can use a very good quality cd player with digital inputs as a dac?How does it compared to a dedicated dac?Something like a marantz pearl which is a great cd player, will being used as dac be any different?

sincerely yours

Hi, just like integrated v pre power the stand alone dac would nrmally be better as it has it's own power supply etc.

Not convinced by that I have to say. The DAC in one of the XTZ amps is also found In the Benchmark DAC, so I'd suggest that those found in CD players can be just as good.

A CD player with digital inputs is meant to be used as a DAC. It wil perform just as well as a DAC as it does as a CD player. How it actually performs will allbdepend how good it's DAC is - the Audiolab 8200CD will be a good example with it's high quality Sabre DAC.
