Cambridge Audio 640P Phonostage - Subsonic filter

Hi,

I picked up a Cambridge Audio Azur 640P phonostage today, and i am totally impressed with it. Wipes the floor with my receiver's built in phono stage.

Can anyone tell me which frequencies are being cut out by the subsonic filter, and whether or not i'm better off keeping it turned on or off?

I'm using Tannoy DC4T speakers with a REL T2 subwoofer.

With the subsonic filter turned on the bass feels a tiny bit thinner - but that could be because i expected it to feel less full and my imagination does the rest!

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hello!

It rather depends on whether you are suffering from subsonic noise (check out the sub cone with the filter off, and the stylus on the out-groove. If the speaker cone is visibly moving in and out, then you have subsonic noise.

If not, then the sub filter won't do anything useful for you. TBH, even if the cone is doing the subsonic thing, try it with and without the filter - you might prefer the latter.
