buzz/vibration with high end vocals and guitar. any ideas?

Hi

Ive stared noticing that there is a slight buzzing or vibration effect on certain songs I play at seemingly random frequencies near the top end. Its especially prominent on songs such as seven nation army by the white stripes and also on poorer quility tracks.It occurs at any volume, low or high.

My system is: cambridge audio 340a amp, wharfdale diamond 9.1 speakers. my only input is a cambridge audio ipod dock.( yes I'm a cheapskate).

So, can anyone pinpoint which part of the system is causing the problem or is this just what i get for buying cheap components?

Hi Dangerbean. I also use an ipod as my source and get the same problem. I find that the ipod is quite a bright sound that can be ruthless with poorly recorded music, especially at the top end. My examples are Duffy and Radiohead where some tracks were virtually unlistenable. The answer is with the EQ settings. I tend to use jazz as I like the bright sound. But with Duffy I use accoustic and with Radiohead I have the EQ turned off. Experiment with the EQ to get the best results. If you set an EQ for an album or track on itunes, it becomes the default setting on the ipod. You can still change it on the ipod, but it goes back to the default the next time you sync. Try that, hope it sorts the problem.

Im guessing that maybe ? you have played the offending track and stuck your lugholes close to your speakers to listen if its coming from there (loose fixing screw perhaps). It wouldnt hurt to make sure that they are tight anyways but dont overdo it. Failing that its a case of 'walking around the listening room like a headless chicken' until you locate the blighter. Check out the screws on your amp too

Thanks guys, I think it might be a loose screw as well now you've mentioned it. Its funny when your thinking about sound waves you forget to factor in the practical things like loose screws!
