I was wondering, is there a way to tell for sure that its brand new and unused as advertised? The listing said its new, unused with 12 month Sony warrenty but tested to see if it powers up ok. So I was wondering, is there any way to tell if it really hasnt had any "use" other than being powered up?

For example is there any service menu which tells how many hours usage its had... etc... any give aways that anyone knows of?

Thx my forum friends ;-)

I would assume you could sort of tell by the software version it is running.

Except it only needs to be connected up, and it will have the latest upgrade installed even if the unit is 1 year old. It may have a 1 year Sony warranty but that may not be valid in the UK. How much is it selling for? You can buy a new PS3 for £280 from reputable sellers.

Ok Iv recieved the PS3 all seems well.

Does anyone know if I can contact sony with the PS3's serial number for them to tell me the exact date of manufacture etc?

Possible, only one way to find out... Give em a call.

Remember though if it was the first ps3 ever made you would still be buying it "brand new" so that wont help you one bit. I would activate your 12 month warrantee by registering your product and you may be able to find out more info that way. As dishonest as it may be people do buy products like PS3's on fake/stolen credit card and resell. is a PAL Version or imported?

Did you get a V.A.T. receipt? I'm guessing the Sony warrantee is only valid if bought of a authorised dealer as that is the only way Sony can ensure you bought the product at the standard that Sony has set. If you bought of a authorised dealer then i would say it would be Brand new, if not there isn't really anyway of knowing.

No VAT mentioned in the price buy Iv not seen anyone do that on ebay, it is definalty UK PAL version. The only snag is that Sony, as you say wont honour the warrenty as its bought off ebay. But hopefully it won't go wrong!! Im just glad I got a 60 gig at a good price before they all run dry!
