What to buy?

I want to buy a new budget system, I looked earlier this year at buying the Marantz PM6602 and CD6002, What HiFi recommended that I try these with the Dali Lektor 1 speakers.

My local Sevenoaks suggested trying these with the Lektor 2 speakers, but they also said I may want to wait for the new Marantz PM6003 and CD6003.

Mean while a few other twists, it was suggested I try the B&W 685 speakers, and even try the NAD C545BEE amp and NAD C326BEE CD player.

The new Marantz models are here, the PM6003 and CD6003, What HiFi are recommending the Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 speakers………….

I am going to arrange a sound check at my local Hifi shop, but has anyone any comments?

Marantz PM6003 and CD6003 or NAD C545BEE and NAD C326BEE CD?

Dali Lektor 2 or the B&W 685 speakers?

That's a decision you have to make for yourself. All the equipment you mentioned is great budget equipment. I haven't heard the new Marantz stuff but I'm sure it's nice. I know first hand that the NAD and B&W equipment work well together. Give the combinations a listen and let us know what you think.

Surely the only way to know FOR SURE is to listen and decide on that basis alone ........

I don't know if the shop is guiding you based on profit margins (not 'cos that's wrong per se - after all they are running a business) or some other basis - but if it were me I would want to hear the difference myself - that way I know when I get it home the question is answered, so I can go on listening safe in the knowledge I spent my money wisely on sound per pound! I would assume any good hi-fi shop would allow you to go through such a process to decide - that's what they are there for!
