Budget Turntable

In 'best buy' - value for money sense, which is the musically best budget Turntable to buy presently.

You'd have to define 'budget' but my current choice would be Project Debut Carbon.

For budget turntables, we'd say the Pro-Ject Essential || (http://www.whathifi.com/review/pro-ject-essential-ii) - though it'd be worth taking a look at the Rega RP1 too (http://www.whathifi.com/Review/Rega-RP1). Both are excellent

Below £300, Project Debut Carbon without doubt.

The Essential II is better the horrible original, and miles better than the massively over-rated Rega RP1. Hate to say that as my old Planar 2, circa 1992, shows how Rega USED to make turntables......

Saying that, I'm sure there are a few Planar 2s (with RB250s) flying around on ebay. Add the motor upgrade and a Grado Prestiege Silver cartridge and I'm not too sure a current RP3 would compare favourably....

Under the reviews on this site there are also "Your Opinion" which are users experiences, under Rega there are plenty of problems mostly humming from the motor, I would audition the Project Debut Carbon thats seems to be about the best budget TT at the moment.

There you go then. Project Debut Carbon it is.

Bear in mind that it is only just under £300 and comes fitted with Ortofon Red cartridge which I personally do not like.

Cannot say as I've never heard it, although it is getting some good reviews. If you are into vinyl for the long-term ad you can stretch to a Debut Carbon I think this would provide more 'bangs for your bucks' and a better pathway for future upgradeability.

i picked up a preloved NAD 556 turntable at just under 100quid and i'm very happy with that, would much rather listen through the turntable than the CA 651cdp

Superfi are selling the Debut Carbon MSL at £299. It's fitted with the Ortofon 2M Silver. I demo'd it a couple of weeks ago and am picking it up today. Excellent sound for the price. I know the normal Carbon well, and when I played Steven Wilson's Grace for Drowning album on the MSL, it was just fantastic. Detail across the board was just steps up from the Red.
