Budget system with DVD playback.

I currently have a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 speakersand am looking for an appropriate Amp and Disc spinner to pair with them. The catchis that I want the Disc spinner to also play DVD’s to my Toshiba Regza 32” TV(720p). My budget is around £300-£400.

Any suggestions?

It's not way off, but it's tricky territory. If your priority is music, and you only want stereo sound rather than surround, I'd get a Cambridge 540D upscaling DVD player, and something like the Marantz PM6002 or (my preference) the Rotel RA-04 - total about £420.

If the budget was a bit more, then there are more options, like adding surround capability - you could also do that with your current budget but you'd compromise the music side - or a bluray source. And if you had £700, you could get the Arcam DV135 and AVR280 from Superfi, which would probably satisfy your music and movie requirements for some time to come.
