Budget system advice

Wanting to improve the sound that comes from my Samsung flatscreen - looks great but speech can sometimes be muffled - and if I whack up the volume the explosions etc threaten to disturb neighbours (living in a flat). I want to avoid blasting sound through my floors - so looking for clarity rather than loudness. Would also want to use speakers to play music streamed from a mac using airport express. Use Virgin Media TV, and also use a PS3 to watch blu-rays, stream video from the computer and play games.

Was considering partnering the
Sony STR-DG820 receiver
with the

Jamo A102HCS5 speakers

but might consider the
Q Acoustics 101i 5.1 speakers
if I can be convinced it would make a huge difference
