I've cheekily added the Bryston bda-1 to my profile when I don't actually have 1 yet. I've just bought a used Bda-1 from the USA (taking advantage of the dollar's recent dip!) rated as in perfect condition for $1600, which translates into £1000.

I hope it was a good move! I plan to use it with an Airport express.

I was considering the Leema antila, but in the end decided on the versatility of a DAC and I already have an iPhone to use as a controller if I use it with the Airport Express!

Thanks

I'm actually gonna use of these to keep it protected under warranty I think:

Audioholic - I use a simlar transformer with my Denon AV amp - which is from the USA too. One thing you may have to not is that these transformers make a small humming sound when they are on. Positioning the transformer carefully might be required if you are close to it. Only a small hum mind.

BTW excellent Byrston DAC. I have on demo the Cambridge Audio DACmagic at home for 2 weeks thanks to Richer Sounds. If I could afford it right now - I would upgrade as that seems like amazing value.

May I ask where you got a used one from? And wont you have to pay TAX for the item to come into the UK. I had to pay £200 for my Denon 4308 - But as it only cost me £999 it was worth it in the end.

I bought it off audiogon, used paypal and the seller agreed to pay the paypal fees. If I was set on a cd player I'd have definitely gone for the leema antila, which I could have got for 1/2 it's new price, but I'd rather have excellent quality on any song I feel like listening to. I don't know how the bryston compares with the chord electronic dac 64 or perpetual technologies, but I think it should give great shimmer to the sound. The dac won't be shipped until payment's cleared which the seller approximates will be the 16th.
