Hi there gurus of what hi-fi forum... seek your advise as I don't get the luxury of auditioning these subs (intend to buy on-line) hence would like to seek your opinion on which type of subs sound better.. box or cylinder (like the SVS cylinder range). Does the sub firing direction matters?

I see box subs everywhere & find the cylinder type aesthetically friendly hence if they sound alike i might go for them.

thanks very much.

hi.. i am not a guru in hi-fi but i have some findings that might be useful.

I am presently using a box type and never experienced sylinder type at this moment. The quality of low frequency is directly influenced by design.

In think face forward firing is better than downward or backward firing. This could avoid unwanted humming reflection from walls. If there are options, I would also prefer one with air ducts positioned face forward too, and put directly under centre speaker.

Ive heard that svs cylinder subs are outrageously good! although ive not heard one myself! ive a down fireing bk monolith and thats a superb sub for the money! it replaced a MJ reference 200 it is much more impressive! goes lower and its tighter. and less cash

hmmph.... thanks for the comments guys. anyone has tried all types of subs together (box, cylinder, sphere) and know which is the better performer?

tq
