Blu-ray player resolution

So things like the PS3 can upscale dvd's to 1080p (and presumably 1080i), but can they show blue ray discs at 1080i instead of p?Obviously i'd like to take full advantage of the format, but at present my projector (Themescene h56) only supports 1080i, so would i be wasting my money buying a Blu-Ray player? Am i better off with e.g. the Samsung DVDHD1080P7 or DVDHD870?

Yes, the projector will be able to downscale the picture from the PS3 to fit its 1080i resolution, so you should be fine.

And i'll still get a better picture than just an upscaled DVD image?

Oh, goodness me yes. My TV only has maximum 720p resolution, but Blu-Ray through the PS3 still looks much better than upscaled DVD.
