Blu-ray and DVD subtitles

I've recently set up my new system (as below).

My young lad loves to have the subtitles on when watching films. Tip for parents: this seems to be having an extremely positive effect on his reading.

One thing that has surprised me is the jagged texture of the subtitle letters. This appears to apply equally to blu-ray discs as well as standard DVDs. I'm assuming that this is normal, although I find it a little odd. Could anyone confirm that all is okay please?

Thanks

LL

I'm using personal settings on the Philips 9664 as per What Hi Fi reviewer recommendations. Sharpness is set to 3.

Thanks LittleLouie, I have been meaning to raise this as well . Through necessity we frequently use subtitles in our household - I would agree that given all the effort that goes into picture and sound, surely the subs could appear at a higher, less blocky resolution. They do seem crude, and changing sharpness settings doesn't overcome this sufficiently.

Thanks Jonnyhifi.

At least I know it's a deficiency in the media rather than an equipment problem (unless everyone else has super-sharp subtitles of course!)
