I am looking for advice as I am relatively new to the world of Hi-Fi.

My daughter turned the volume up full on my AV amp ( Sony STR DA 3500 ) which at the time was playing my i-pod through the front 2 speakers ( quad 22L2's ). The volume was turned down after about 30 seconds, but now my front speakers sound distorted. Can anyone advise if the speakers are repairable or are they knackered?

Thanks for any advice given, Scott.

Forgot to add that the amp is powered at 100 watts per channel, and the speakers are apparently rated at 50 - 300 watts each.
Thanks again for any help.

Yes, they sound fuzzy even when the speakers are played at relatively low volume. I don't know if it is one of the driver's or the tweeter, or possibly something else. However having just purchased them second hand about a month ago, I am hoping that they are repairable in some way. Thanks for any help once again.

Push the bass drivers, if the movement is very rough you've fried them - there's varying degrees of damage you might have done but chances are you're going to need at least a couple of drive units. You can probably just contact the manufacturer for a quote, the repair itself would be simple enough.

Another fairly common thing is the voice coil tube becoming detached from the cone. If you put a small amount of pressure on the cone and the fuzzyness goes away, this has happened. It'll need replacing. It ight be worth popping the cone out just to make sure a cable isn't resting on the back of the cone. If it's not under warranty of course - if it is, pop it into your dealer for them to check. Long shot, but possible.

Thanks for the advice. I gently pushed the bass driver and the mid bass driver, the bass driver was fine, however the mid bass driver was rough on both speakers.

It looks like I will have to get 2 new drivers and see about getting a Quad dealer to do the necessary repair. I hope they aren't too expensive as my wife may well strangle me!! Don't you just love kids!!!!!!

Thanks once more, Scott.

Yeah, that sounds quite common in 2.5-way speakers, those mid/bass drivers tend to take the most punishment - hopefully that's all it is though, shouldn't set you back too much for a couple of new ones. You can fix them yourself easily enough if you want to save money (presuming the dealer would charge and that you can handle a soldering iron!).
