Hi. I'm thinking of replacing my existing TV set up which I've had for around 8 years. Looking to spend no more than around £1200 on a decent LCD or Plasma TV, 37" min, with accompanying recordable DVD player and stand. Not too fussed about a home cinema set up. Must include freeview as I don't want another box. Was thinking of either Panasonic or Sony. My current set is Phillips.

Any ideas out there..?? Is there anything head & shoulders above the rest in that price range..?? Anything I should be looking to avoid as well...

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Andy

Thanks mate, it's a bit of a minefiled out there so it's good to have a recommendation.

Is it the general consensus that LCD is better £ for £ than Plasma - I appreciate there're pros & cons to both, but taking into account cost, longevity, pic quality etc, etc....

Cheers

Andy.

Well there are far more LCD's than plasmas and they are cheaper to make but whether you get more for your pound is debatable.

Personally i'm a plasma man, Panasonic or Pioneer rule the roost.

You should try out the Pioneer PDP-4280XD. It has just been discontinued, so it now sells for £1300. Instead of being Full HD, which is pointless for 42" if you sit at a reasonable distance, it has the best contrast for a T.V. this price, which means it has the best pound for pound performance.ÿ
