I am currently using VLC as it supports wide range of codecs but not satisfied with SQ, can anyone recommend app which can do justice to SQ for lossless or flac files.

The player you use will not make any difference if you play lossless files, and have a computer setup that does not change the bitstream (volume 100%, balance even, no digital effects, no resampling by a sound card). Are you streaming at a lower quality? Or playing locally? Are you using the analog out of the computer or digital to a dac? All can make a difference.

I agree with Pete10, the actual media player is going to have no effect on the sound. Its the computer settings and/or the rest of your kit that are important.

If you mean best as in ease of use, I use WMP and itunes and find both very intuative.

I have a creative x-fi xtreme music card and have turned-off all effects in the creative console, in the past I used MusicMatch which was very good but since Yahoo bought it it no longer available as a standalone player. I don't like winamp or windows media player, I tried foobar but it's too basic doesn't have nice console or GUI interface.

Why not try a few? They tend to be free to try. Personally, I'd recommend foobar2000, especially if you like to tinker and get things just the way you want them. Nice and simple with low resource usage. See my signature for a canter around setting up the HCI.

I used Mediamonkey with the the kernel sreaming plugin but got annoyed with it's lack of gapless playback so now use J River Media Jukebox 12 with asio4all which has gapless playback. This is on a Windows XP machine with a creative usb sound card.Ive pretty much all of the players out there & none of them are perfect so I'll stick with Media Jukebox as it's the least annoying, though the gui is a cross between itunes and WMP 11 so may not appeal.
