Best internet radio for bedroom/garden for £100-£200

Hey all,

Just been reading up on internet radio, which I use all the time. Am in the process of moving house so want internet radio that is mobile for when im in the garden or laying in bed.

Looking at EVOKE flow, contour or the squzzebox. Ive heard evoke has lots of problems.

Will mainly be using it for ipod.internet radio but want a half decent sound

I saw in another thread that you own an iPhone. Why not get a dock for your iPhone?

I have heard this one with an iPod and it's really good.

Regarding the Pure Evoke Flow comment, we have had one for two years and it is faultless. (And that is with 4 people - including a teenager - using it constantly every day in our kitchen and conservatory.) It has the optional extra rechargeable battery pack which lasted for ages the last time I had to use the radio away from the mains.

However, if I had the £200 that you have, I would probably go for the Roberts I linked to above. Before the two Pure Evokes that we have now, we used various Roberts radios for 25 years and there is no substitute for the sound from their traditional (or classic) models.

Both the iPad or a PSP are brilliant for this sort of thing if you have one lying around.

Squeezeboxes have no iPod dock so with the Boom or Radio you'd be limited to a 3.5mm connection. Only the Radio has a battery pack available.

The Q2 looks like a good bet, but also worth keeping an eye on developments here:

The Zeppelin is probably out of your budget, but if ever iHome pull their finger out, this plus a free iPhone app like RadioPlayer, might be a good option and likely closer to budget judging by their existing iPhone/radio/docks.

Personally I couldn't wait for manufacturers to get up to speed so have recently got a pair of AudioEngine A2's and another Airport Express for the kitchen and I'm very impressed with them, though again, not necessarily as portable as you'd like...
