Have you got any feedback or in case you don't, what is your opinion about which would be the current year's (3D) best buy home cinema amplifiers for the 500-1000 category and for the 1000-1500 category?

Hi c_avraamides

I finally received Yamaha's new RX-V1067 (£850), RX-V2067 (£1100) and RX-V3067 (£1500) yesterday. All three receivers look very strong. So far the RX-V3067 in particular takes the top honours.

All the best

There are lots of alternatives and without more information about your system , room and how you listen it is very hard to say which is best for you.

The £500-£1000 price point has several contenders - the Onkyo TX-NR808 being a good choice.

Over the £1000 mark we suggest the Onkyo NR1008, the Pioneer SC-LX73, Yamaha RX-v3067 and the Marantz SR7005. All are very good in their own right but one will give you bigger gains depending on your environment.

Hello,

Potentially looking at amps in similar price brackets to partner standard Tannoy Arena with TS300 sub, for films and music, in an area about 11' x 12', (opens out into an area about the same size again on the left but not looking to fill that with sound).

Not imminently and not for definite but in the next few years in maybe a bit bigger room I'd look to add some bigger front speakers, (Tannoy maybe £600 or so for the pair), for front left and right and have 7 speakers. Also possibly to consider a sub upgrade or add an extra one.

I'm wondering if you have any advice on what might be good to take full advantage of the Arena and also support the kind of upgrade I mention? I'm thinking I should be looking more to around £1000 than going for a full £1500? (The new Yamahas do look good!)

Any advice much appreciated.

I would be using the 5.1 Monitor Audio Apex system. (for a 30 square meter space, 2.5 meter high).

With The Apex Speakers I would suggest getting the best amp you can afford, a £500 receiver will not do them justice, look at the Pioneer LX72 / LX83 or Yamaha 2067 / 3067.

These would sound excellent.

I briefly considered 3D compatability when buying my new Amp and decided that new players (e.g. Panasonic's) with two HDMI's will take care of it, 'if' and when I ever head down the 3D route. i.e. I think that soon enough there will be loads of players with this capability to negatethe need to upgrade a perfectly good Amp.

Hi c_avraamides

Within your budget the RX-V3067 will be an excellent match for the Apex sub/sats.

All the best

Musicraft,

1. Do they 'look solid' based on their physical dimensions/build quality, or sound?

2. Does the RX-V3067 take 'top honours' based on it's price tag or again, sound?

I recently bought the Denon AVR-3311 and am really happy with it. My Monitor Audio RX6 AV sound great through it. I also recently bi-amped the L&R through the Denon and it is now awesome at 2 channel as well as 5.1.

Well worth a listen if you have the opportunity.
