Hi. i'm new here and new to hifi (i don't have one!)

I used Best Buy guide to choose the following pairing: Q Acoustics 2050i speakers with Marantz PM4006 amp.

A friend advised me to return the amp (delivery expected today by courier) as it does not have a preamp out and cannot be used to biamp. i am not fully sure what he meant even after he explained it.

Is the advice/guide in the best buy wrong or misleading? should i return the amp?

the items were a gift to my daughters music teacher.

all help much appreciated.

I think you mean the 6004?

ANyway I would not cancel it, get and play and see if its OK for your speakers. Bi-amping can have some benefits but they are not that great and you will need to spend more money.

You should not choose hifi by best buy guides, the only guide is hearing it.

Hi, I think you meant PM6004 and not PM4006 ! Anyways IMO this is a very good combination to start with. Do not worry about a lot of experimentation to begin with but concentrate on enjoying the music. 6004 is a cracking amp with nice balanced sound ( I had once owned PM6002) and I hv read very good reviews about these speakers too. Hopefully you'll like what you are hearing. All the best.

Will the sound improve very much after they are played for a while?

and thanks for the welcome to this place.

Get PM6005 (as it's got built in DAC) or even better M-CR510 for less money and with built in DAC, AirPlay, Wi-Fi, front & rear USB, optical in, internet radio and sounds same as PM6005. If you need CD playback get M-CR610.. here you'll get on top of M-CR510 FM & DAB radio and more digital inputs.

OK cool. Right - I agree that it should be a very nice sounding system, and I would take little heed to the advice about bi-amping, which would be way down my list of priorities; the system is fine as it is, and the lack of preouts would not put me off at all.

I can't help having a sneaking feeling though that the previous poster is right about the M-CR610 (or older 603 which should be available even cheaper). Who have you bought the system from?

Nice gift btw.
