Does anyone know what the best budget speaker (£150-£300) for vocal delivery would be as I listen to a lot of uncomplicated songs with maybe 1 or 2 instruments accompanying a singer. Excitement and emotion being the most important factors. THANKS. PS. I have the marantz 6002 combo.

They seem to be raving about these Arcaydis speakers recently. Can't remember the model number, but think they're £275.

Try a search of the reviews for more info.

You mean these.

Indeed I do Chebby. Good job!

Epos speakers have a good quality mid-range, great with vocals.

You can pick up some Epos M5i's within your budget at the moment from Superfi.

I have the M22i speakers in Red Cherry and the finish is quite striking. A bit more dark red than the brown that is shown in the superfi site.

Definately worth a demo.

I concur. I had the M22's and for sheer voice quality, they had no competitors.

Agree. Epos or UsherS520 for added warmth. Not a clue though how they sound with the named Marantzes but they do fine with the usual mid-range stuff.

i have listened to the 10.1's and they were good but it was through graded CA stock at richer sounds so not fair but i have heard the monitor audio br2s and they had almost depth and i cant remember them being poor at the vocel side of things

This might sound a tad weird, as I'd be talking about a much cheaper speaker. For vocals, I really liked the Q Acoustics 1010i. 😛

It won't have any scale, nor would it be immaculately detailed, but the vocals are just so darn lovely and natural-sounding.

In my opinion, the 1010i did the vocals better than any speaker that I've owned. The list includes the following:

Wharfedale Diamond 9.6, 9.3, 9.1, 9.4 and 9.cs

PSB Alpha B1, Imagine B25, Image T

B&W 683

Infinity Primus P160

MS Avant 902i

Mission M53

Not really budget speakers but if you find a pair of 2nd hand Hyperion HWS 585 speakers...

They were night and day difference over my Wharfedale speakers, including the Evolution series, i heard these on different amps and rooms. They are very nice with voices and i can't fault them on any genre i throw at them. Good weight to the sound and an open, deep sound but don't place them to close to to the backwalls and they throw an impressive 3D stage.

The HWS-586 model is a little bigger but the price also, they are certainly no bright speakers when run in and they don't need lots of power.

The AVI Neutron III, IV, or in the current guise, V would be a good one to go for I think. Used to retail at £500, the current model is £399, but you could get an earlier model used for nearer your price range. Wonderful little speaker by all accounts.

I went into sevenoaks in Glasgow with the intention of auditioning speakers within my budget that I thought I would like. I first listened to the lektor 1's and was immediately impressed with the life that came from them and , the most important criteria, how much the vocals impressed. I would have been very happy to walk away with these but needed to compare just to be sure. It was the lektor 2's next and again the vocals excelled, maybe just that little bit fuller than the 1's and a touch more bass and again would have happily walked away with these if I hadn't heard the 1's. The overall balance of the 1's swayed me towards them, they ( to me anyway) had all the parts of the music coming together beautifully and that exciting way with vocals meant I prefered them slightly to the 2's. Finally it was the wharfedale 10.1's. I played- The kings of leon - use somebody- and during the introduction I was very impressed with the space they generated and was thinking I could have a winner here until he sang. The spark and the emotion displayed by the dali's wasn't the same here and despite giving them a fair go I realised they weren't for me. I could understand how they are rated so highly but it shows how important your own ears are in deciding what you like. I didn't get the chance to audition the epos and it would have been nice to compare them but I walked away with a pair of lektor 1's convinced I had made the right choice. Getting them home and listening to them a lot since then has more than confirmed I have made the right choice. People have commented on the lack of bass but unless you want the bass to dominate your music it is more than enough and I think the overall balance is superb. Thanks to everyone who contributed.
