Beloved Denon DMD-1000 fault

I have had my Denon DMD-1000 since it was first introduced back in the late 90's. Its been great!

Until recently.... When I insert a disc it says "TOC Err R" and spits it back out.

Its not the md and ive tried a cleaner disc.

Does anybody know how I may mend it?

Could be a faulty laser you could try cleaning it with alcohol and cotton buds.

I had a new laser a while ago expect to pay in the region of £80.

Wow... £80 for a laser! Is that for just laser or the mount too? Do you know exactly which bit fails? The board looks a bog standard sharp driver board. Maybe it was in more than this unit

Yes probably about £70 to repair inc. labour, you could probably buy the lazer for around £15 and do it yourself if you know how to. Have a look on ebay see if the part is available.

Ok. Thanks for your replies. This is the second dmd-1000 ive owned. The first broke down a week after purchase, got it swapped for a new one (this one) which worked for a year after which it was packed away and not touched til recently. Spending £70 on a part that i have had a poor experience with is too much of a risk for me. Its a shame...

Well you could buy another one on ebay there are several on there for £50-£100.
