Hi All,

I have just upgraded my music system to a Musical Fidelity KW Pre &
Power Combo with the KW DM 25 DAC & Transport & Chord Signature with
Van Den Hul First Ultimate power cords throughout. The Sound is something that
suits my type of music (RnB/Jass/Blues/Soul/bit of HipHop) & I adore the
system completely.

However unfortunately a year ago I had to sell my Monitor Audio GS60s - I
always knew that this was the weak link in my system however the speakers just
sang with my music and to be honest I have never auditioned anything apart from
MA. I am now using my friends GR10s (The older model) for a temp period.

I would love to hear peoples opinions about speakers that meet my
requirements - that can play loud, have unbelievable dynamics and are tuneful
with a tweeter that will do all the right things except bring a spotlight to
itself by sounding brighter at loud volumes. Ooo and my biggest concern is that
the speakers MUST look like contemporary art - like the GS60s or the
PL300s(About to Audition soon) from Monitor Audio

Any opinions of help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately yes - Just doesnt quite sit with me right. Infact you can buy the astonishing B&W 802Ds for about 3500GBP Ex Dem - I refuse to buy them purely because of their looks - their sound from what I have read is sublime however. Thx though

Are you sure you need the thoughts of a HI FI forum and not a style and design forum ?

Absolutely as Sound Quality is still of major importance - Music has to make me smile :)

You could always close your eyes and just listen to the music then..........

I would trawl through a lot of manufacturers pick out the ones that you like the look of and then ask the question, as looks seem to be more important to you.............

The OP is looking to spend a fair whack, what is wrong with him liking the look, as well as the sound of the speakers? I reckon the Platinums will sound amazing.

We could suggest speakers all day long, if all the OP says is he dosen't like the look whats the point? Much better for him to sort out the ones he likes the look of and then we could suggest a preference...........

Why not plop for some electrostatics?

Contemporary, have the wow factor but not too ostentatious?ÿ

Keep the Pre, keep the player/transport, sell the amps.

Then buy one of B&O high end active speakers. Solved.

LOL

I have my hopes pinned on the fact that the Platinum series do sound amazing - I shall post my opinion over the next couple of weeks once I have had a chance to Demo them.

The B&O Speakers do look good, but my 750W amplifier - I couldnt part with that :)

As to closing my eyes whilst listening......if I am going to be spending anything over 3G for a pair of speakers, they not only have to sound amazing - but look amazing too :)

Thx Guys

What about the new Spendor ST's? Phillip Swift said that they will work with the customer to customise the finish to what they want. I'm presuming only parts of the veneering here but it could be worth a sniff if you had a specific interior design in mind.

Actually, very good call. Quads don't hack it, but Martin Logan certainly do - they have actives and passives I think.........

Example here

I'd have 'em like a shot (maybe in return for the 9-3 convertible, hm?)
