Well they only really compete head-to-head in area of accessories - radios, headphones etc - so I don't really see it being a 'versus' situation in a wider sense.

What is it you had in mind?

Am looking for a music system. Was originally thinking traditional HiFi but might go down the DAB / IPod route...

Few questions that should help build a shortlist:

1) What's your budget?

2) Where's your new system going to sit (size/type of room)?

3) What features do you need? CD? DAB? iPod? Streaming?

4) What kind of music do you like listening to?

5) I'm guessing from the brands you mention that style is important - would you pay more or make a sonic compromise if it meant a better-looking system?

Budget is up to £1,500

Living / Dining room - 20 by 10 foot ish

Need - CD, DAB and Ipod, not so bothered about streaming

Pop / Rock

Style is important and would pay slightly more for it. Re compromising on sound, to be honest, i want both!!

Thanks

Not aware of B&O offerings, but I've listened to the Bose Wave system & they sound awesome! You can get a system with 5-CD changer & DAB module for £1298.

Add the ipod kit for £99.

They're also offering free headphones with the Wave system currently.

Though of course you could have a complete Cambridge 650 series system (including CD Player, Amplifier, DAB+ Tuner, Mordaunt Short Mezzos and an iPod Dock) for about 1100 quid. I personally think it's very attractive, but the bulk may be off-putting to you (also available in black):

Mmm yeah. Right.

What was the question? Sort of lost me there.

 I have spent a small fortune on B&O equipment which is good when it works but sadly very difficult and expensive to get repaired. If I could find a freelance engineer in the Sussex/Kent area I would be very satisfied if not I will probably cut my losses and install a simpler system

In terms of Style Bang and Olufsen is on a different planet to Bose.

Have you considered going the used route for B&O? You can try such specialists as MorethanAV, Iconic AV or Sound Affair.

B&O can and does sound impressive as other posts say it can be beaten for ultimate performance for less money, but the others don't have the same sense of design rightness.

B&O definately, i have a full surround sound set (no i am not biased) for 18 years and they still blow many new speakers out the water, you can also connect them to an amplifier (i have mine hooked up via yamaha rxv3067) and its awesome, but i will say one thing try buying second hand you get alot for your money that way as opposed to brand new, with the reputable second hand companys they give you warranty so you have complete peace of mind
