Hi,

I am a bit low on funds, but need cd player to go with my new (second hand AVI) amp. Would anyone know if the Arcam would be suitable ? Also any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated :) Speakers will be added at a later date...

Thanks.

Demo a few CD players in your budget. Cambridge Audio's 840 us great.

You can't be that low on funds. Also consider flogging your AVI amp and buy the active 9.1's instead for not much more than a 37. Built in pre-amp, amps, DAC and remote controlled.

The amp is very transparent and neutral so I'd be cautious about matching a CDP that's the same. My system is all very neutral and whilst pretty accurate, sounds a little cold or uninvolving at times (maybe just the recordings I use!).

What about the Unison Unico CDP? Sublime midrange and good timing. Something from Shanling CD-T100?

Cold or uninvolving is the AVI sound.A warmer sounding cd spinner would be preferable imo also the AVI cd players had lasers that only lasted a year or 2 and i may be wrong here but i think they don't repair and service older models.
