Interested in these when I upgrade my hi-fi. Feeding them through an Airport Express and NAS. I've seen people using them with external DACs as well. Why is this done? Surely there is a DAC in the speakers so you would just be passing it through one DAC then another?

How's people's experience with them in general. It's the compact nature that appeals to me. Also the price seems to be very good for what you are getting. You seem to have to spend a few grand to better it.

I'm not going to make any bold claims for them as many will do that, and im not experienced enough to say they will beat speakers at X cost.

However, i like them. My last speakers were MA B2s - very warm and cozy compared to the AVIs. However, the AVIs are, in my experience, capable of presenting things like Find the River in as "lush" a way as they should be, while lending a lean muscle to rock/punk/hardcore, without ever being gratingly analytical/sterile. To me, anyway.

Some find them bass light but i have'nt*.

*My decision is possibly influenced by the fact I've not enough space or money for the sub right now, and the former is unlikely to expand any time soon. But then I've never been much of a bass head anyway.

love mine mate. get the sort of detail that i previously only got from headphones.

i stream to them using a squeezebox Duet direct into the optical in.i use the inbuilt DAC

there is a guy on here ( i forget the name) that is using an external DAC, i think just because he needed more connections. (the speakers have 3). I imagine he is bypassing the inbuilt dac by plugging his into the phone jacks.

I personally havent heard better. but im no as experienced as a lot of the guys on here.

I have had £1000 - 1200 worth of cd/amp/speakers and this is miles better. and recently i home auditioned the same maounts worth of current well thought of stuff and once again these were night and day better. And for me, that just wants to listen to the music, has no interest in upgrading cables and boxes every few months, and all the worry that seem to creat. they were an ideal option.

ive some more info here on them if u havent see it. it was in the 'my system' section but theres only 2 pages when i look and mines not there. maybe somone can shed some light?

cheers paul (PS, Im in bexley area. if ur nearby, you can hear them.

Method Man is correct. I use the DAC to add more connections and gain better control of the volume. It does plug straight into the Phono sockets.

And as the others have said, they sound excellent.

Unfortunately Im in Belfast, but thanks for the offer. Not sure of anywhere over here I can hear them.

I take it that if Im just using for music from one source then external DACs wouldnt be an issue?

Hi guys, first post on here so go easy! Just wondered if an owner of AVI ADM 9.1's could tell me the length of the connect between the main speaker and the slave speaker, as im considering getting a pair and im just trying to envisage where to put them! Didnt feel it neccesary to start a new thread, so sorry to the OP. Thanks in advance.

JohnDuncan:Don't know if there's even one in the box, but if there is and it's not long enough then you can always buy another, it's a standard connection.

According to the AVI web page for the ADM9.1 (quote)...

"The ADM9.1s come with 2 x 5 metre mains lead, one by 5 metre interconnecting cable and the handset, so all you need is a suitable Optical Cable and two Triple A batteries."

http://www.avihifi.co.uk/adm9.html (Scroll down to the last paragraph before the facebook link.)

And on their online store webpage they specify...

"Handset (batteries not included) and all cables included plus one Optical and a Mini Toslink adaptor."

http://www.avihifi.co.uk/store.html

I emailed them about the conflicting info on their website (product page vs store page). I got a reply stating the following:

"The Sub and ADMs come with three 3 M mains cables. The Sub also comes with a 5 M phono to phono cable and the ADMs with a 5 Metre interconnect, a handset, 1.5 M Optical cable and a Mini Toslink adaptor for Apple products.
You only have to buy 2 x Triple A Batteries."

Rich27:Seems a bit tight not to include any batteries!

I'm sure if you ask him (Ashley) nicely, he will enclose a pair for you.

He will take one look at your system and instantly know you can't afford them ....

Hi,

Has anyone tried upgrading the 5 Mt phono cable? In all the reviews I read before buying it was suggested that upgrading the mains, phono or the optical cable was pointless but I have so far replaced the mains cable with improvements so am possibly going to try replacing the phono, just wondered if anyone else had done this.

Paul

Sounds like an expensive tweak. The cable you get is shielded and seems to be of high quality construction.

Hi Rob how are you? Did you have a good Christmas? And how are you gettingon with your new purchase.

I thought the philosophy behind the ADM9.1 system was to side-step such 'audiophoolery' as boutique cables and mains leads.

I suggest a phone call or email to AVI to seek advice & suggestions.

See if you can check out these too. No need for a sub here, it's all included with the speaker.

, with the money saved you can buy more music.

I've had my 9.1Ts for just nearly two weeks now. I have to say they are excellent value for money. The sound is very 'natural' with no distortion even at very high levels. I stream from my MacBook via AEX and my TV / Blu Ray player is hooked up to them too. I'd really recommend them to anyone thinking of spending a lot of money to listen to these first.

Yes that was my understanding but as I have all these cables I try them out on all my new kit and in this case has had an improvement as it should, if I had a spare decent extra long interconnect then I would have tried it too but I would have to buy one so thought I would ask if anyone had tried it first.

Thanks for the replies

Paul
