AV Receiver required ?

I have become a bit confused as to what receiver i need to buy, to the extent i am now wondering if i need one at all, is it possible to have 5.1 surround sound with just the TV (probably panasonic 42pz81 or Sony 40 w4000) a PS3 and a set of SFX tannoy 5.1 speakers.If the broadcasts ie: Sky or DVD supports 5.1 can the sound not be run direct from the PS3 to the speaker system, or from the TV to the speaker system, maybe a stupid question but just thinking out loud.

I'm afraid not, you will at the very least need something with 5.1 speaker connections!

Your speakers are passive so you will needs an amp to power them. A basic one will do but make sure it has optical inputs so you get sound from your PS3.
