Audiolab 8000Q Pre-amp £250 or less - various

See Hi Fi Confidential, Audio Affair...new Audiolab range on the way I think, but £250 for the Q is very good. You can get the 8000P power amp for £300 which is 100w on tap...£559 for a system that was nearly twice that not all that long ago. Alternatively, the option to monoblock using the 8000M (sadly not quite so lowly priced I think) is there as well.

At that price the pre/power is a damn good bargain. If you like a clean, powerful sound (possibly clincal but that depends on your take on things) this pairing is excellent. The 8000P can deliver peak current of over 40A with 100W of power in total. This would suit both inefficient (voltage demanding) and tricky impedance loads (current demanding) well. I'm not sure that you'd have to even think about speaker matching!

Right now, for the money, I'd have this Rotel RB06/RC06 combo.
