A very good question. You have the benefit of the separate power supplies on the P/Q but better design on the 8200A (and probably about the same price overall at the moment given the 8000 series is now discontinued).

For your speakers, my vote would go for the 8000Q/P simply for the benefits of having a pre/power - you can always upgrade these in future around 8200P/Q or even two 8200Ms if you so desire

Which would sound better though? I'm just worried because the 8000 is quite old whereas the 8200 is brand new and probably has a better sound.

You also have the option to get the 8200A now and add the 8200P later.

You can use the 8200A to drive the tweeters and the 8200P to drive the woofer.

The 8200A and 8200P will provide the same gain (even though their rated power output are different).

You can also use the 8200A to connect to 2 sets of stereo power amps (eg 8200P) or 4 sets of monobloc (eg 8200M or 8200MB) actually since it has 2 sets of pre amp outputs.

Unless your source is the 8200CDQ which has a pre amp output, then skip the 8200A or 8000Q/8200Q and just go for the stereo power amp option to go with the 8200CDQ.

Yeah I was asking because I can get the 8000P/Q combo for the same price as the 8200A, hence juggling to two options. So I'm guessing there would be a substantial difference between the 8000 and the 8200 series?

Oh, you did not mentioned the price issue before.

But I can't comment on the 8000Q/P combo as I have not heard them.

My suggestion is to try the 8200A and 8000Q/P combo at the dealer's place to check them out.
