ATC SCM 11 stereo speakers SCM11 or wilson square 2s?

can't help but think the wilsons are 3x the price of the scm11s. a fairer comparison might be with scm19 or 40. what are you planning on partnering them with? what sort of sound are you after? musical tastes?

well im offered the wilsons at £1500 ant the atcs are £825 so im buying them as either new fronts for my cinema and hi fi set up pioneer amp or gonna have em stand alone with some nad or cyrus gear i like jazz funk

Can you demo both? I can only vouch for the 11s but they are lovely speakers, transparent, neutral and very detailed.

As an all round speaker, I think the SCM11 would actually be a preferable speaker. We found the Square 2's were great with the right music, but play anything you don't like and they lacked life (but were much better than the Square 1's). The SCM11's don't have this problem. I'd recommend the SCM19's if you can stretch to them.

nokz:which do i go for the ATC SCM 11 stereo speakers SCM11 or the wilson benesh square twos

Hi nokz

The ATC SCM11's are excellent speakers that can punch well above their weight however if your budget allows £1.5k than i will highly recommend that you consider the SCM19's instead. With the SCM7's and the SCM11's (which uses ATC's superb CLD - Constrained Layered Damping mid/bass drive unit which is also used in their Professional SCM16 speakers) ATC give an exceedingly good taste of what they are capable of. However it is with the SCM19's that ATC really start to flex their muscles. The SCM19's incorporate ATC's stunning SLMT (Super Linear Magnet Technology which is also used in their SCM20 Professional speakers) to help reduce distortion even further than the already impressive CLD drive unit. ATC tackles distortion by hand building their own massive, precise and technogically advanced state of the art drive units. The SLMT drive unit itself weighs 9kg!

Wilson Benesch make some excellent speakers (including the Square Two). However you may be interested to know that on all the ocassions my clients have directly compared them to ATC's (including Square Two v SCM19) all of them have chosen ATC speakers.

Whether it is music or movie sountracks the ATC's will reproduce them in a clear, precise, uncoloured, natural and powerful manner by enabling your components to breathe. Their performance potential (with their state of the art drive units) is vast and one which will also ensure that they can accomodate many future component changes.

Thanks

I've heard both the ATC SCM11s and the Wilson Benesch - with the right amp and source the WB are unbeatable. However, as previously mentioned, it does come at a cost....literally.

I heard the WBs with Roksan Caspian mono blocs and Caspian CDP, and it sounded awsome.

Regardless of whether you choose WB or ATCs, an audition is an absolute must......

I have WB Square Ones and they are fantastic to my ears. The bass is incredibly tight, the top end is clear without being too edgy and the mid-range brings tears to my eyes. Of course the bass isn't the biggest but all other speakers I have heard now seem fuzzy.

Great news is that WB make a matching centre (this was a requirement for me as I have a combined stereo/home cinema system).

My only advice is that you may need to avoid over bright cables.

Never heard ATC but I knwo they are very popular in this sort of price range but I hope that helps.
