Asus Essence ST soundcard or DAC?

Right now I am using an onboard realtek alc885 chipset (hooked up to a Rega Brio 3 amp), which surprisingly has great signal-to-noise ratio. My motherboard also uses tantalum capacitors, which I think improves the sound quality. The sound is clear and clean, but is a bit bright for my liking. Should I get an external tube DAC or a Hi-FI soundcard like the Asus Essence? Which would produce a warmer sound?

Good question, I'd be interested in the feedback on this as I'm looking at upgrading my media PC to a better spec.

I've had one for about three months and it sounds fantastic, have also upgraded the IV opamps to get a slightly better sound too.

Asus have used high quality components and good design for this card and it shows, music and sound comes from a super quiet background, hidden details are easily revealed without sounding harsh or clinical.

A very good buy for the money, it helps to have a good (solid) pc case, a decent power supply (Corsair for example) and quiet fans.
