Arcam Muso gives me the droop

I have just recently purchased 5 arcam muso satellites and the logo subwoofer. Auditioned them at Audio T in Chandlers Ford. Great speakers and, to my mind, sounded far better with music than the B&W M10 satellites, MA R90s? and KEF 5005.2 alternatives. Anyway, I rec'd delivery of the speakers and wall brackets on friday. I excitely began to unpack the speakers and wall brackets. I hadn't seen the wall brackets when deciding on the speakers. I had just assumed that they would be fit for purpose....especially given Arcam's reputation for build quality. Oh dear, I could see that they wouldn't be up to the job just from looking at them. Funny little things, made of lightweight material with a Arcam sticker stuck on as an after thought. Nonetheless, I persevered and attempted to mount a speaker on the wall. It became clear that Arcam didn't have much confidence in the brackets either....I found an additional instruction on a bit of paper which requested that the installer bung in a spring clip in the ball and socket to try and lock things in place when tightening it up. This I did. Things didn't go well from the off. The plate I attached to the wall had to be loosened to allow the bracket to slide over it (thereby attaching it to the wall). Then it didn't want to go over the screws (supplied in the kit). A bit of force and I managed to get things in place. However, no matter how hard I tightened the ball and socket, the speaker would always droop. Moreover, the brackets (not cheap) would not permit me to mount the centre speaker in a horizontal position, even if the drooping had not been an issue. Severely hacked off, I rang Audio T and complained bitterly. They agreed to contact Arcam for me to see what they had to say. I'll find out their response on tuesday. In the meantime, I had a bit of a look round online....I can't find pictures/literature regarding the Arcam wall brackets anywhere. However, I chanced upon these.....these. These are the exact same brackets (minus the sticker)...going for considerably less than I paid for them. I have to say, I am rather annoyed. If I had known the wall brackets supplied for the muso's were so poorly made/conceived I would have gone for something else. I had assumed that the brackets would be designed/engineered by Arcam. They are not. If Arcam are unable to resolve the situation to my satisfaction, I will be demanding my money back on the whole lot. I'll update this post when I find out what they intend to do.

Now this doesn't sound good - i have the exact same package as you and bought the same speaker brackets - have had them for 3 weeks now but not got as far as trying to fit them as yet but i can't believe how much they look like the brackets you've attached on ebay - only difference i can see is the sticker as mentioned and the oblong shaped mounting bar - i paid £20 per pair. this was going to be my job tomorrow - was supposed to be last weekend but when on opening the brackets i found one missing the oblong bit so decided wouldn't bother till got the missing piece - was sent to me last thursday direct from Arcam. Is it worth me starting tomorrow?

sorry just noticied they have the bar as well!!!!

Funnily enough, the Ebay shop selling PJ's "Arcam" brackets" also sold me my secondary TV AV stand, a Techlink Dais, for £30. Great value and prompt delivery - just so you know! I wouldn't want them to get a bad rep from this!

i don't think he was complaining about the ebay shop - more the fact Arcam have just stuck a sticker on the same things and doubled the price - the muso's are also very close in weight to the speaker brackets maximum prob half the problem

Yep, no problem with the ebay company....annoying that Arcam have doubled the price on this item (by adding a sticker). Rip off? Seem to remember another thread on this forum where some guy claimed that Hifi manufacturers were including cheap stuff in their equipment and selling it on a premium prices (can't find the thread). Is this a clear cut example of this?
To be absolutely honest, I would see the rip off as a bit of bad luck only. My main gripe is that the brackets simply do not work with the musos.
I expect more form Arcam. A lot more. The very least I would expect is that the brackets are fit for purpose. They clearly have tested these and found them wanting.....hence the installation instructions suppliment and the extra spring washer thingy.
As I said earlier, if I don't get satisfaction the whole lot is going back. It is absolutely critical for me that the speakers can be wall mounted. If they can't, then I wouldn't have bothered auditioning them in the first place.
I have to say that I'll be disappointed to see them go as, for the money, they really are pretty good.
This is also going to be a test of Audio T for me. I applauded their customer service here. But you only really get to fully understand the committment to the customer when things go wrong. If they do not represent my best interests when dealing with Arcam, I won't be using them again!

Well, Audio-T contacted Arcam and the geezer who sets up the Arcam showroom (Matt) said tighten it up really tight. Arcam do admit that there is a problem with the centre speaker in a horizontal position and, apparently, they're looking into it. Arcam also claim that on-one else has had any problems!
OK, so I agreed to have another go and using my big yankee screwdriver I tightened the ball and socket up really tight. I managed to get it so that it didn't droop. Not sure if it's a long term fix. We'll see. It's been OK for the last couple of days.
Anyway, I have agreed with Audio-T that if there are problems later that I should get back in contact and they will try and sort me out. As far as the centre, they are going to try and get me an additional wall moun tform Arcam for free (good will gesture) as an interim fix. They have also said that when Arcam resolves the centre speaker issue that they will provide me that solution free of charge.
So, I'm not especially happy with Arcam but to be fair, Audio-T could not have done any more. I even drew up plans with them to return the whole lot and replace the 5.1 with a couple of DB1i....and start to build a PMC 5.1 system from there. In many ways I regret that I am not doing that. However, the Muso's are great little speakers and I have always been happy with their sonic abilities.

Just mounted the front two at the moment......back two and centre still to do. The fronts haven't drooped as yet.
I'm using some old qed silver anniversary for the front three and some el cheapo stuff from maplins for the back two (£1 a metre). Fanatastic!
Your wifey should grumble too much if you've played your strategy right. First bring home some massive floorstanders.....

Yes.....I just switch it on and don't use the stand by. I've noticed that once it does come out of standby it doesn't seem to want to go asleep again, even If I switch my 606 off.
Incidently, do you have the 606? I'm having some issues and would be grateful for some advice.

yeah mine doesn't like going to sleep either - but once on stays on i don't have the 606 but are considering one, i am currently running the Arcam Solo Movie which i am going to put in my bedroom - due to the fact that its not great as a main unit as not enough inputs for all my kit - ie xbox, ps3, hd dvd freeview ect its great if you want to use it asa all in one and have no other kit. What probs you having may be able to help and could be good to know for the future.

Other than the fact that I'm not convinced I'm getting surround sound (see here) it's not at all bad. I would have liked to have gone for something a little higher up the Onk range with preouts but if you go too far, then the speakers won't do it justice.
