Good evening,

I bought an Arcam AVR400 when they were discounted to £1k. I have not been able to use it because moving to a new home has not worked out. It might take me 12 months to move home but I would still have 4 years warranty left.

the question is should I keep it or sell it on? I know it is hard to keep up with technology but my dealer keeps telling me that the Meat and Potatoes of good Hi Fi will never change and that is what the Arcam does well.

I'm an Arcam fan, but I'm not sure what to advise.......I suppose it depends on what you'd get for the AVR400 or how it compares to an AVR450.

Lucky you! I would certainly use this, and get the enjoyment from it, if I were you, as it will still be far better than most sub £1000 receivers in terms of the overall sound quality, even if used as a stereo amp!

I understand mate. Even if I got top money for the AVR400 I don't think the AVR450 is £1200 better. How will the AVR400 cope with future 4k players?

Yes lucky me. I don't want to sound spoiled. I know how good the Arcam is. I have a Linn Majik DSM for music. I suppose the question should be... Would you keep a AVR400 in a box for 12 months knowing to replace it for like for like will cost you twice as much or to buy something for the same value wouldn't be as good?

If you don't need the money, and it has all the facilities that you need for the future, on balance I think Nick is right......just don't hold onto it, watch it lose value, and then change it after 12 months.
