Arcam Alpha 7 for £75 good deal or not

Is this for the CD player or for the amp?

If so its an ok price but you can get cheaper on Ebay but then again you have to pay for postage etc...

Aye £75 isnt a bad price but you'd be better off if you can get the Arcam Alpha 8 integrated OR you could look to add either the Arcam Alpha 7 or 8 power amplifier to the Alpha 7 integrated.

Woth while investment as it really helps to open up the soundstage.

What CDP would you be matching with the amo and what speakers would you be running?

Due to price constraints from being a student I would have to keep my existing speakers which are wharfale diamond 8.1se and also due to my CD collection remaining back at home in Ireland i am using my laptop to play music with an old arcam alpha 2 amp that my dad has given me.

Thanks for the reply John. The alpha 2 I have is in mint condition with manual, box and everything that originally came with it. Im sure if I was to sell it this would help with the price.

Get the Arcam Alpha 7R ASAP then. Thats hell of a deal 🙂

You could poss look to sell the Arcam Alpha 2 amp and get the Arcam Alpha 5/6 CDP which are both very good and would be better than your laptop!

it would yes. Mine has none of those so is in a drawer

Depends on whether I think it's worth it - the Arcam and my Yamaha surround amp are the main inhabitants, neither of which would get much - I'd rather keep them in case of emergencies for second systems, a return to surround, that sort of thing. Stuff that'll get a worthwhile price gets sold.

Though we're about to do up the house and I've been told to have a clear out, so they may finally go, along with some of my nine guitars.......

I know you have a budget and its no good suggesting spending more if you dont have it ... but ... if you can stretch to NAD's baby amp (forgot the model #) you have a better sounding product, new with warranty and r/c.

Most def not going to disagree with that, but I have to say, the Arcam Alpha stuff was great, very musical and enjoyable (whatever that means)!

They are but I always find I want that little bit more life, detail and urgency. Unfortunately these are traits lacking throughout most of the range. I think this is one of the reasons why a lot of arcam owners go down the bi-amp route, which, with a good amp that has these qualities in the first place, is simply unneccessary. Again, just my opinion.

Yeah I have been looking at the NAD amp in question the c315bee. I possibly could bargain richer sounds down to 150 on it using the price beat offer but unfortunately that would have to wait till after the summer when i can afford it. I do see your point Drummerman on warranty and it would probably be wiser and wait and get something with a warranty to ensure against unforeseen probs. Its just at the minute im getting itchy for something new but my gf would kill me if i spent £150 now as i'm supposed to be saving to go to the benicassim festival in the summer.

No, seriously, as suggested by yourself, dont spend what you dont have and find something nice 2nd hand.

A kind, quick end to a questionable existence ...
