arcam a85 - still any good ?

The Arcam A85 continues to be a very popular choice for a stereophile HiFi amp, with excellent timing and insight - as long as it's partnered with the right speakers and source. I've had one from new, and have no plans to get rid of it - I'm just looking for some new speakers for it. They are not the most powerful 85W speaker in the world, and a lot of people end up getting a power amp - such as the matching P85 amp - to give them extra oomph and allow for bi-amping.

As for price - £299 sounds in the right ballpark - look on eBay, there's virtually always some for sale there, to check the prices. If possible, try to get one with the optional phono amp fitted, as this allows you to plug a turntable straight in.

Always has been a very good amp. What speakers do you have?

TALON1973:as subject .. just wondering if its still worth buy ? and at what orice ? ive been offered it at £299 is that to much money ?

Hi TALON1973

I'll suggest that you also consider Rotel's superb RA-1062. The RA-1062 is simply a much better amplifier as i and nearly all of my clients who compared the two also discovered over a period of two years regardless of associated components used.

Btw, RA-1062's are also generally available around £300 or so.

All the best

Yes, I'd say its definitely worth a look. And far better when paired with the P85. I've had 2 A85s and 2 P85s so they must be doing something right. £260 - 300 sounds about right to me.
