bear in mind though. Apple are about to release new, more powerful MBAs, I understand they're going to be about £100 cheaper

Happened yesterday.

It got a pretty much pointless 100MHz CPU bump and that's it, and the £100 price cut.

Making it a slightly less overpriced netbook.

Not sure I would call it a netbook, considering it has the same Haswell processor found in more well specced laptops, and you can go up to 8GB RAM. The price of 13-inch MacBook Air is actually comparable (cheaper, in some cases) to others in the same category: Sony Vaio Pro, Lenovo X1 Carbon, Asus Zenbook, Samsung Ativ Book 9 Plus, Acer S7 with Haswell processor. What the MacBook Air lacks in, is the screen resolution.

Those models you list maybe using haswell, but they're not all using the same low rent 1.3 (now 1.4GHz) CPU

It very much is a netbook, given the likely usage IMO. A Chromebook would be more sensible buy for many of those considering an Air.

One clue is the processor speed.

The one on Apple are 1.4 GHZ. The JL ones are 1.3.

In reality there maybe won't be a massive difference in performance, but JL should have the new ones soon.

I have bought Apple products from JL because of the warranties.

They do use Intel HD 5000 which no one else uses. Netbooks use the weaker Intel Atom processor. I can't see chromebook in the competition at all, given lack of storage space and lack of usage for anything outside the internet.

Its only £120 to upgrade to a 1.7 i7, so i see the price drop as a free i7 upgrade :)

Stream it from where?

There's a lot of issues logged about "choppy" and "stuttering" play back on macbook airs.

One of the reasons I went for a full fat 13" macbook (i7) with a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter...

... which I now can't find :wall:

Oh, I thought you bought all your tech stuff from JL? Looks like a nice machine, but personally I'd prefer a Macbook Pro - the Airs are a bit too stripped down for my tastes/needs.

Yeah, I normally do but I have already returned a MacBook Pro from John Lewis! So I thought I would spread it about this time. :)
