Hi,

I sometimes need to stream music from my iphone 4 to my Denon RCD-M38 system,i was thinking that a airport express would be a simple way to do this, although if anybody has an alternative i'm open to suggestions.if i go the airport express route i have a couple of questions:

1.Are all versions of the airport express compatible with airplay.

2.If you are streaming from the iphone instead of the PC and itunes do you need to have the PC on or just the router or both.

I hope someone out there can help.

Thanks.

To answer your questions:

1. AFAIK the only difference between the original Airport Express and the present model is that the new model supports 5G and 801.11n. The original Airport Express will support Airplay. Only two types have been produced. The original Airport Express was sold between 2004 and 2008. The present model from 2008.

2. We stream from an iPad to the Airport Express. The Airport Express is linked to the WiFi network. Only the router and the Airport Express need to be on. The Mac doesn't have to be on.

You can also use an iOS device as a remote control for the iTunes library. Of course the Mac (or PC) needs to be on for that.

I think this answers your questions.

Just to add to Mark's comments, I use both an original (non-802.11n) and new AirPort Express in my AirPlay network at home, and both work fine.
