I have been considering upgrading my RP3 for an RP6, but it has been

suggested that a VPI (from the US) may be a better option. Pricier

(the basic Traveler is ~£1400 no cart.) but much better sounding.

Has anyone heard one?

Thanks Steve. I hadn't considered the Gyrodeck

so I may have a listen to that as well. I seem to be inching my way

to RP8 money without trying, what a hobby! Should have listened

to my mother and taken up origami.

Listen fella, i have only been into vinyl a few years now believe me the Rega budget decks are great for the money!

I think the RP6 is Rega's best deck but if I was in the RP8 budget then I really would suggest a GyroDec with a Rega RB303 arm - like I said HiFix are doing that package for less then £1500, an RP8 is £1600 and to me the Gyro is way ahead in terms of engineering, then when funds allow upgrade the RB303 to an SME or something then it really will be a superb deck.

I love my RP6, it sounds great, is a good price at £749 but my next deck will not be an RP8 but a GyroDec or Orbe.

BTW

The step from an RP3 to RP6 is noticable, i did the same RP1/Bias2 to RP3/Elys2 to RP6/Exact, but if i could turn back the clock i would of gone RP3 then Gyrodec!

PS just noticed, you have a nice 2 ch system there!

I have yet to fix the budget, or timescale for this upgrade. I enjoy the sound of

my current system, but I know I want to improve it. Its a big step from £500 deck to

>£1k and when I get there I want to make sure I get to listen to as many options

as possible. Seeing your system and noting your comments I will definitely

demo the Gyro. Not checked which arm is fitted though. Probably RB303.

Thanks again for your comments, much appreciated.

The Gyro does not come form Michell with an arm, however the 303 is a good starting point or a Tecnoarm, then something further up the ladder an SME
