Hi all, I've heard a lot of reviews about the Samsung-50Q97HDX and I'd quite fancy getting one however the boss seems to think it might be a bit big in our living room.(plus we'd be watching it at a bit of an angle does that have any bearing on Plasma's because I've heard a lot about LCD's not being very good for this?).

Therefore I've been looking at the 42" version of the above which looks good but I can't see any reviews in the mag. does anyone know anything about the set?

Oh! and yeah I know I should wear the trousers and all that before you start!

Pretty sure (though with Samsung model numbers, I can't guarantee) that's the set in our 40-42in Supertest currently underway at WHFS&V towers....

Mix of plasma and LCD sets in that test, from all the big brands. That issue's on sale 20th September, if you and 'the boss' can wait that long! (Women, eh? Tsk....)

This is the set I have in mind after sending my new LG LC55 back to John Lewis for a refund.

I am new here so be gentle with me.

Spent last weekend walking around the shops looking at all the LCD's/Plasmas that I have on my shortlist & I spent an hour playing with the Samsung PS42Q97HDX, which I belive is the same as the Q96HDX, & I can say for sure that the picture is miles better than the LG I took back & as good as the Panasonic TH-37PX70 that I also looked at both in a viewing tent thing that the shop had setup so to half look like a living room out of the shops glaring lights.

I liked the vast picture adjustment menue on the Sam compared to the Pan & the handy third HDMi socket on the side & not making the mistake, when I brought the LG, of thinking that the HD films that were running on the TV in the shops were in fact the pictures I would get when I plugged my SD Virgin box into it I made sure I was watching the freeview built into the Sam as well as the HD stuff they play in the showroom to confuse fools like me :).

I am sure you can tell I'm new to the LCD/Plasma TV's having used 28" widscreen CRTV for tha past 5yrs but the Samsung did look good to me & for the price it looks like alot of TV for the money but now I have found this great magazine & this forum I am now wondering if I should wait until you publish your 40/42" TV's test results before I buy & can I wait until the 20th of September for the results :(.

Another 'What' magazine reviewed the above Samsung alongside a Panasonic TH42PX70 last month. the Samsung is a good TV and also bear in mind you now pick one up for £685.00 or for around £750 inc a 3 Year Warranty on one website I've seen.

Thanks all for the advice I'l bear it all in mind and I'll definitely hang on for the results of the tests in next month's issue to see the options available, who knows by then I may even have the cash available!

Plus I'll start having a think about surround sound which may be essential because I've heard the sound with Samsung isn't brilliant apparently?
