hello all

How can i make my system better?

I've got Teac Referance 500 cd and amp, Monitor Audio Silver-RS6 speakers, QED Silver Aniversary Bi wire, and Chord Corous Interconects. Had it for a few years now but im looking to do something with it to upgrade it so any help and suggestions will be gratefully recieved as its all new to me.

Thanks in anticiption

Musical Fidelity AMS50 amp, Musical Fidelity AMS Primo Pre-amp, Musical Fidelity AMSCD CD Player, Dynaudio Confidence C1 speakers. Upgrade complete!

Question is: What do you think is wrong with it? Does it not sound as good as you want, is it missing some functionality you would like, or is this just the ol' upgrade bug striking...

Upgrade your mains cables and any fuses in the system with either Hifi-Tuning or Isoclean fuses. The fuses cost between £15 and £25 each depending on where you buy them and what size you need. This is the first step i took and the extra bass, detail and ease of listening brought was stunning. The system sounds much more real.

Lots of people think mains upgrades, especially fuses are a waste of money but give the fuses a try as they aren't expensive for what you gain. Just be aware that to get the most from the fuses you need good mains cables.

I recently bought 2 Ps Audo xtreme power premier sc cables. They have US plugs on them and retailed for $1800 each 2meter cable. I got them for $280 each as they have been replaced by a new model and bought a power filter with US sockets on it so i could use them. The US plug doesnt have a fuse but i feed my filter with a pure silver power cord with silver mk plug, hifi tuning silver fuse and wattgate 350 IEC.

jaxwired:Matt, What's the rest of your system? Curious...

Hi Jaxwired

My system comprises of

Arcam Fmj Cd33, Krell Kav 300i, ATC SCM19's, Rel strata 5, Ps audio xtreme statement interconnect and xtreme statement bi-wire speaker cables, Dalkey audio pure silver mians lead feeding Yaqin ML-1100 filter and 2xPs audio premier sc power cords from filter to amp and cd. Also Sonic euphoria neutrik lead from amp to sub and Dalkey audio classic power cord on sub and Hifi-Tuning fuses in everything.

Cheers

Matt

I think upgrading your Teac receiver to a proper integrated amplifier is in order.

Depending on your budget I recommend Cambridge Audio 550A and Arcam A18. They are both great sounding machines.

If you want to hear the largest difference in your system, then my advice would be to upgrade your speakers. It's no good upgrading your source components if you're not able to truly appreciate the differences involved. Even though your MA's are mighty nice, you might want to take the next step into something new ?!

If you like the MA sound, how about the Golds ?

The speakers are very nice and, I don't think the source and amp do them justice. I'm with batonwielder on this point, look to get yourself a better amp. Going on 3/3/3/1 for source/amp/speakers/wires you should be looking at £400-600 for the amp (I'm assuming somewhere around £600 new for the RS6s)... Though having said that, the award winning Marantz PM6003 can be had for £250.

At that price, might want to consider an new CD spinner as well

Maybe the matching CD6003...

Find a good shop with some RS6s in and line up an audition with some of your favourite discs...
