Sorry folks...

My parent-in-law's have decided that they dont like the Denon's own speakers that they got with the system.

Does anyone know if the might Denon will run the Q Acoustic 2020's ok?

They seem pretty easy to run by the looks of their specs etc...

Cheers

Oooh, we've got the perfect speaker Supertest coming up for you/your folks: a budget speaker shootout featuring both the Q Acoustics 2010 and 2020, plus Tannoy, Tangent, Gale, Teufel, Wharfedale and more. Issue out March 10th (with subscribers from March 5th).

If you can't wait those couple of weeks, don't just look at the size/rating of the speakers, but consider positioning - as we've found from the test, performance can vary widely depending on where you place them (not just on stands/on shelves, but also how close to the wall).

Hi Claire. Thanks for the reply.

Well the speakers will be on Atacama SE24 stands and about 1ft from the rear and side walls; if not more, so the Q Acoustic 2020's sound to be a good fit.

Unfortunately I dont think they'll wait that long and they really like the look of the them in the gloss black finish!

Sounds good! Are the Tannoy's the F1 Customs or have they got something new coming out?

If they are, hope they don't get slaughtered as I love mine!

I'd just double-check the dimensions of the Atacama's top plate vs the Q Acoustic's size - the 2020s are deeper than they are tall, so will overhang the top-plate of many speaker stands. That's not so great an issue - good deployment of Blu-Tack will keep them secure even if they overlap - but watch that doesn't take the rear of the speakers even closer to the back wall, or they could get boomy.

Just had a quick check on Tannoy prices and the Customs are nearly £30 more from Superfi where I bought them just under a year ago.

If I was a betting man I kinda guess the 2010's are the winner, then.

Lot of interesting new models in that test, though....

Hi Claire

Already got that one sorted.

They were my speaker stands from a while back and I had the larger top plates from factory as I had B&W 602 S2's on them which arent small speakers themselves!

The back of the speakers for the Denon will be 1ft or more from the back wall; not the stands 🙂

Thanks though

As ever, they were tested both with reference and price-comparable kit - and I believe the Denon was part of that mix...
