should I buy the Arcam Dv137 Dvd player to upscale 1080p DVD's or get the Pioneer 71 to do this (budget £600) ?

The Arcam's stand-out strength is as a highly musical DVD player (by AV standards). If it's the best of movies you're after, i'd go with the Pioneer, which is an excellent DVD upscaler and will also allow you to explore the amazing world of Blu-ray...

Andrew = buy an Oppo DV-983H (around £300).

Just reviewed it for a future issue of Gramophone and thought it was seriously good.

Mind you, depends whether or not you want Blu-ray capability: if you do, I'd go for the Pioneer.

Thanks to you both. I'll feel better at spending the £600 ish on the Pioneer 71 now and getting into the world of Blu-Ray !
