Yesterday I was strolling through town and passed my favourite Hifi shop. As they have quite a decent ammount of cd's on sale to I couldn't control myself and just had to step inside.
Apart from all the stuff they already had the last time I was there, a new pair of Monitor Audio GS10's were also ready to be demoed. The guy working there didn't had much to do so I had a friendly chat with him, about turntables and the speakers he currently carried. He was more than willing to give me a demo of the Monitor Audio's, and I was more than willing to listen to them. Boy, was I in for a treat, what a lovely soundstage, tight, taut bass, and a 3D image to die for. I switched between the GS10's, RS6's, GS20's, Focal Chorus 826, and some others but I kept coming back to the GS10's, what lovely speakers, so gorgeous sounding. There was a hint of treble brightness, but it may have been the recording (Mozart, Piano concertos and some Eagles cd). The finish of the speakers (black lacquer) was particularly impressive also.
As intrigued as I was, I nervously asked how much they costed. Quelle surprise, only 700 euro! Even though it's still alot of money for a student like me, they certainly seem affordable. I was quouted a fair trade in price for my speakers. A dining table seems more necessary, but I'm very tempted to blow a months wage on these speakers
Some new Amphion Argon speakers were also playing on a Cambrigde 840 pair, while it was lovely sounding, it sounded somewhat bright. Too bright for my likings, may have been due to the Cambridge gear. A pair of BNS speakers (Dutch brand, not very well known) which looked like straight B&W nautilus clones were also playing, but these sounded godawful.
It was a lovely afternoon, with some great impressions, but the highlight was the Marantz CD94 that was being serviced. It was immaculate. It may sound like a cliché, but they certainly don't make them like that anymore. /Rant over.
