An alternative to standmount monitors?

Hello, I have a question about bookshelf speakers.

In all the reviews the advise is to place monitors on stands.

I saw the following alternative for placing bookshelf speakers.
Dynaudio / SF1.

Could this be a serious alternative for speaker stands?

Similar concept to Genelec's isolation platform (effectively, a rubber pad on which Genelec's active speakers sit). The key thing is to remove as much vibration and isolate the speaker as is possible. Have a look at sthe Steve Hoffman forum and search for Barry Diament's (legendary mastering engineer from Atlantic) thoughts and tips on how to do this too - then see if you've any spare bicycle tyre tubes kicking around.

Neat looking proposition though.
