Hi, new here and in need of some advice on an amplifier upgrade. I currently use an old british mvl A2+ 100w ch . Its agreat amp but want something with a bit more drive and verve to power my focal electra 926. Also unsure about the quality of the built in dac on some modern amps this is all new to me . Im trying to hook up my laptop to catch up with technology any help will be much appreciated. My current dac is an old trichord pulsar which I like a lot. Its very neutral analogue and smooth. thanks in advance....

You haven't mentioned budget, but for my taste, it would be something that isn't forward or bright sounding ;

- Valve amps from Icon Audio, Pure Sound or Unison Research

- Hybrid amps from Pathos or Unison Research Unico

- Solid state amps from Electrocompaniet, Arcam, Lavardin, Sugden, Musical Fidelity or Audio Analogue.

Hi, Iv looked at the hegels on you tube they sound very nice and accurate from what I can tell the 300 sounds excellent, not sure which model my system could make the most of though my current amp was a cracking amplifier in its day 1999-2000 was £1450 with good reviews so hoping I can get a higher quality amp for my budget thanks for the suggestion,Dale

Hi Dale

What genre of music do you generally listen to?

Your general listening level?

In the meantime if you can stretch your budget then Naim's SuperUniti, SuperNait 2/Rega DAC, ATC SIA2-150 MK2/Rega DAC and a Naim/ATC P1 are also worth bearing in mind.

All the best

Rick @ Musicraft

hy thanks for the great suggestions been off for a few days my music tastes are rock, blues, metal, electronica from metallica, pink floyd to sarah mchlachan. I dont play loud all the time upto about 10 oclock max.trying to protect my speakers .my current amp has a noisy transformer and I like late night quiet listening also so would need a quiet amp as some have a reputaion for hum.thanks.Dale

Thought Cno or someone else had said that MF's production of the 35i had been halted or a new model was in place?

The link Iceman posted is to a s/h unit.

There was a production run of AMS35is in 2013, but I'm not sure whether they're still making them. In any case, the one on offer at Audio Emotion is a bargain.

Where in the uk stock Hegel amps??? I'm really interested in hearing the h80 but i find it difficult to locate uk stockists for there products.

I think someone did mention that production may be ending, but it wasn't me. As far as I know, there isn't another model......imo. it would be pointless, as I'm not sure they could improve it (as a class A), for the money.

IME. There is no better way the OP could spend £3k, provided he could live with the heat and the power consumption.

Have you tried emailing the UK distributor?

http://www.aventure-europe.com/

yeah I've been there but it says when you click on Hegel that the category doesn't have anything in it check back soon, they have had that up for a while now.
