Hi,

I need advice on which stereo amp to buy for a pair of Dali Lektor 1 speakers that can give me a good movie watching experience. I will be connecting the amp from the RCA out of my Asus Xonar Essence STX sound card (STX is a high-end HTPC sound card).

50% music - streaming FLACs from the STX, lot of classical and rock.

50% movies - DVDs, movies with 5.1 DTS tracks as well as 2-channel tracks.

My room is small (11' x 12') and I don't have a budget to get center or rears or an AVR. I have been advised to go for a Cambridge Audio 340R (so that I can expand to 5.1 later) but I am not sure if that's a good idea.

I will probably get a Velodyne Impact 10 subwoofer for movie effects.

Do these amps go well with the Lektors for movies? These are suggested amps but I have never heard them with Dali speakers, so I would appreciate if those who have heard the Lektors can comment.

1. Cambridge Audio 640A

2. Cyrus 6 vs2

3. NAD 325bee

Would getting the Dali Ikon 2 instead of the Lektor make a significant difference? I don't want to spend the extra 300 if I can get a good deal out of the lektors.

The Ikon' s are a totally different speaker and although the Lektors are good they are not in the same league. The Ikon 2's with the Cyrus would be a good match, you will get a quick punchy sound. With the Lektors the NAD is probably a more balanced set up.

I guess I shouldn't be comparing the Ikons since the Ikon2/Cyrus combo is probably twice the price of the Lektor/NAD combo. I can definitely think of going for the Ikon 2 + Cyrus 6vs2 if there is a significant improvement in quality.

But say I want to go for the Lektor 1, which is the best amp to go with it? CA or NAD or any other recommendations?

Thanks!

Nad with the Lektors, Cyrus with the Ikons is the way I would do it. You could look at teh Ikon 1's for your room size though. The 2s are pretty big.
