I have arcam alpha 1 cd player and NAD c325 amp which has just died on me. I have also got chord carnival silverscreen speaker wire and chord chamelean interconnect as well as atlas interconnects. my problem is will it be worth getting my amp fixed or replacing it with a better one to run my MA RS8 speakers

What type of music do you generally listen to and also what is your budget?

If you have a look at a few posts down you'll see da_grudge is looking for a replacement amp for his M/A RS6's so some ideas are to be had there

I listen to all types of music from tubular bells to bassline house

I would suggest, Mark, you upgrade the CDP and amp. Probably the best place would be your local Sevenoaks or Audio-T. They usually have some very good ex-dem and s/hand stuff that will suit the RS8. Personally, I would audition Leema Pulse. Although it has a very agile delivery, match with a smooth CDP and the combo will sing! I heard the Leema/Arcam CD 192 and my RS6 - it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Sevenoaks Sound and Vision are currently selling the Pulse for £900 + £400 Arcam 192, that brings you £200 under your budget, and with that money you could upgrade your cables.

Good luck.

Edit - The quoted price for Arcam CD192 is on ebay.

Yup; good call there PP.

The Leema Pulse looks to be astunning buy!

I think that the likes of the Arcam A28 and the Rotel RA1520 integrated amps should be demo'd as well.

As for CDP's; deffo agree with the Arcam CD192 but also take a look at the Rega Apollo or the Rega Saturn if you can find one at a decent price!

Reckon the Pulse would kick the pants of the other two, £1300 amp well reviewed, great firm, apparently great sound to boot. Need to be looking up at the likes of other £1k amps I'd say to come nearer to a challenge for the Pulse.
