For amplifiers, do you notice the sound improve after a certain number of hours' playing?

If so, how many hours are needed?

Some say it is not really a thing.

If its solid state and its the first time switch on (Or switch on after a long period of no use) then just give it a couple of minutes to settle and you will be fine, if its been in standby then you are good to go straight away. (NOTE: There will aways be a slight delay before the sound comes on after switch on to protect the speakers)
If a valve (Tube) amp then give it at least 5min to stabilise before listening.

I am talking about it loosening up/sounding better after it has been used for a certain amount of hours, rather than switched on before use.

If a Amp is in a very cold environment surley it would be beneficial to let it warm up ?
If it s that cold then you may get condensation on the unit and you should not switch it on until it has warmed up to the environment it is in, otherwise it might cause damage to the components. (Other than that then no)
If it is just a really cold environment then always leave it on standby as it then has minimal power going through to keep the compnets stable.

Funny enough, the opposite is probably true.
To identify faulty components in my old service department days, we had cans of freezer spray.
A (partially) faulty transistor would start to work properly when covered in frost 🥶
(No coincidence that superconductors need to be cold - the lower the temperature, the greater the conduction).

I recently heard someone saying that a Moon amplifier should burn-in for 200 hours, and he said that exactly after 200 hours everything snapped into place. I never heard such bollox.

The only thing that might need a few minutes of burn in are the power supply capacitors, especially if they have been on the shelve for a while (this is also mentioned in the data sheets from some of the manufacturers).
