Hi all I thought it would be worth a shot at asking those with more knowledge than me for some help.

I am pretty new to this game but am hoping to put together my first decent hi fi for when I move in to my new home.

I am currently about to buy a pair of Tannoy R3 floor standers as from what I have read to date they are a pretty good purchase for the kind of price range I am looking at.

I now need to look into getting an amp and cd player to go with these speakers but i really have no idea what to look for.

I would like to spend about £250 all in for second hand amp and cd. I listen to music by everyone from Ben Harper & Xavier Rudd to Lynryd Skynyrd.

The set up will be in a room approx 5m by 12m with high ceilings.

If anyone has any recommendations and or tips on what I should be looking for I would be really appreciative.

ps. I have read that Nad stuff is a good match to tannoy, is this the case?

With your budget I think eBay is the answer

The Tannoys are rated at 6ohms and 89dB so they're easy enough to drive. Have a nosey round for a NAD C320BEE or an Arcam Alpha 8 integrated amp. Have a look at Rotel amps as well though; always good for a 1st system IMO

As for CDP's take a look for an Arcam Alpha 7SE or 8SE

If you wanted other options for speakers IMO you couldnt go far wrong with a decent pair of Acoustic Energy AE109's!

There are though shops that specialise in 2nd hand hifi such as:

Steves HiFi
Green Home Electronics &
2ndhandhifi

If you Google them all you'll find them

Don't forget though that you need to budget for speaker cable and interconnects (QED Silver Anniversary or Chord Carnival Silverscreen for speaker cables and the QED Quenex2 or Chord Crimson for inbterconnects) should suffice
