I've decided to take my Kef Q5's out of my home cinema system as they rarely get used.

So, the plan is to buy an amp and an I-Chord or similar to connect my I-pod/Laptop.

I'm looking at £250 max and listen to mostly indie/rock and house music.

I was thinking of just going along with WHiFi's 5 star Marantz pm6001 (£200 from Richers). Would this be powerful enough to drive the Q5's or should I be shopping for more power?

Not sure if it's this simple!! I thought that maybe spending the money on ebay and try an pick up a Rotel RA-03 or something with a bit more power.

Any advice on this would be really appreciated

The usual advice is to spend about the same amount of money on each component, maybe a bit more on speakers. But also, I'd spend as much as I could afford on each component. I would have thought the Marantz would be fine, but I'd have a look to see what NAD amp you could get for your £250 - Superfi have the C325BEE for £230, or the C352CT for £270. Every NAD amp I've heard has sounded great to me.
