Alpha 8 and 8R

I don't think I'm wrong in thinking that this question has been asked before but having trawled through old posts I'm still confused.

I realise that the Alpha 8r came with a remote control, but I've seen Alpha 8s that have remote control too were they an optional extra for the 8?

Are there other upgrades to the 8R, better circuitry, sound, facilities perhaps?

I may be wrong but as far as I'm aware the only difference is the remote. I used to have the Alpha 8 amp and 7 CDP. The CDP comes with a remote that can also control the volume on the amp. That is to say the standard 8 amp can be remote operated (volume only) but doesn't come with one as standard. The 8r amp comes with a remote as standard. I'm not sure if the 8r remote has more functions that are usable on the amp such as sources input.

Googling suggests that the R added an AV processor mode.
